I’ve talked before about the human scale of emotions. When we realize we live on a scale rather than on-off like a computer, life becomes a process, not a factor of luck. We see we move through emotions, not just have them.

In the movie The Secret, they share a scale. The simple teaching is that the higher up in emotional tone we are, the more we attract joy. Like attracts like. It’s obvious really. Wouldn’t you rather do business with a happy person than a sad or angry one? Don’t you think your spouse might do more nice things for you if you we happy first?

The other great use of the scale is that we can see that if someone is in anger, that is a higher tone than them being depressed or in fear. That’s a good thing! We don’t want to suppress their anger or shame them. We want to help them reach up the scale to just being annoyed or bored and wanting to change something. Parents can learn from this by not trying to suppress their children’s natural anger and teach them to be depressed adults. Ask them instead what they are angry about and what action they can do to change it.

Notice at the top is LOVE. That is, the unconditional desire to share, the connection as-one toward upliftment. Practice all the feelings at the top of the scale and notice what you attract.

The right use of visualization is to impress upon our subconscious mind what we want ourselves to do. When you were young, and visualized having a car & driving it, it was so that you would someday have a car and be able to drive it. And today, you actually drive it on auto-pilot. Thus, visualization is to train your auto-pilot so YOU create love and prosperity FROM you.

You do not need to apply your will to things in order to compel them to come to you. That would simply be trying to coerce God and would be foolish and useless.

You do not have to try to compel God to give you good things, any more than you have to use will power to make the sun rise.

You do not have to use your will power to conquer an unfriendly Deity, or to make stubborn and rebellious forces do your bidding. Substance is friendly to you, and is more anxious to give you what you want than you are to get it.

To get rich, you need only to use your will power upon yourself. When you know what to think and do, then you must use your will to compel yourself to think and do the right things. That is the legitimate use of the will in getting what you want to use it in holding yourself to the right course. Use your will to keep yourself thinking and acting in the certain way.”

The Secret always has and always will work. The Secret is about changing who we are, not how the world is. Visualize what you desire each day, with love in your heart, feeling good, ready to be the person who could receive it.

This hundred-year-old book does reflect man exploring ideas about the universe still a bit influenced by superstitions. However, from a psychology perspective, it’s understanding of visualization and clear purpose is profound and simple. It’s a tiny book and a quick read. Anyone interested in success can’t skip this book.
